2. Create prompt standards
Standardize how your team prompts AI tools:
- Brand voice guidelines that get included in every content prompt
- Banned phrases and claims that AI should never generate
- Required disclosures and caveats for specific content types
- Tone guidelines by channel (LinkedIn vs. email vs. landing page)
3. Build a review workflow
The review process should match the content volume:
- Automated checks: Use AI to check AI outputs — scan for common hallucination patterns, off-brand language, and unsupported claims
- Peer review: Every piece of medium+ risk content gets one human review
- Expert review: High-risk content gets reviewed by a subject matter expert, not just an editor
4. Establish a data policy
Be explicit about what can and can't go into AI tools:
- No customer PII in prompts
- No unreleased product details
- No financial data or projections
- No competitive intelligence from confidential sources
5. Measure and iterate
Track governance metrics quarterly:
- Number of content errors caught in review
- Time from draft to publish (is governance adding too much friction?)
- Brand consistency scores across channels
- Compliance incidents (target: zero)

Here's what most teams miss: governance isn't a speed bump. It's a competitive advantage.
When you have clear guardrails, your team moves faster with confidence. They don't second-guess whether they can use AI for a task. They don't worry about accidentally violating compliance. They have standardized prompts that produce consistent, on-brand outputs.
The teams that figure this out first will outproduce and outperform teams that are either avoiding AI entirely or using it recklessly.
